Basic �Bot: Not So Basic After All
The Basic �Bot Guide, formally called the Push �Bot Guide, is a �how to� instruction manual that FIRSTTech Challenge releases each year. The guide details how a team might go about building your competition robot and goes through each portion of the build with helpful hints and full pictures and explanations every step of the way. You can find all four of our Basic 'Bot Guides on our Building Resources webpage in our resource library on our firstinspires.org website.
So, who is this guide meant for?
Anyone can use the Basic �Bot Guide, but it is most often utilized by rookie Coaches, Mentors, and Team Members who can use this guide as a starting point for building their own robot for competition.
You aren�t required to use the guides, or follow them at all, but it is a great place to start if you are new to the program and feel a little lost at first. Users can read through the guide and get a sense of how their team might go about building a straightforward and uncomplicated robot for the FIRST Tech Challenge season and is revised, tested and revamped each year to complement the yearly game challenge.
Why is there a part 1 and a game specific version of the guide released later?
There are two separate versions of the Basic �Bot Guide. One version is made specifically for a REV kit and one version is made specifically for a TETRIX kit.
Both the REV and TETRIX versions of the guide are split into two parts. Part 1 of the guide goes into detail about building the basic chassis of your robot. Part 2 of the guide helps show the user how to build the robot with the yearly game challenge in mind and game specific rules and building tips with the end goal of helping the team build a robot that can be competitive in the yearly game challenge!
Both the guides are made with easy step-by-step instructions and photos. These guides are intended to help direct and focus you in the process of building your own robot. And at the very least, the guide will give you a good idea of what building your robot will actually look like and require at each step of the way.
